Usain Bolt, is recognized as the world's fastest man, he's an 11 time World Champion and at the time of this article has earned 7 Olympic Gold Medals in his lifetime.

Usain Bolt played sports for fun as a child in his home town of Trelawny, Jamaica then later took up sprinting. By the time he was 12 years old he was running in national events.   In high school he was playing cricket but was encouraged by a coach to focus on track and field events. By the age of 15 he had grown taller and faster and started winning medal after medal in both national and world events.      Now at the age of 29, Bolt has earned medals from all corners of the world and continues to hold world records in the 100 and 200 m sprint track events.  He is the highest paid athlete in Track and Field with lucrative sponsors like Puma and Gatorade.

Now you ask what does Usain Bolt  have to do with building a profitable online business?

Ok, we'll get there, but first….

How did Usain Bolt, get to be where he is today? 

It seems it was a combination of factors that have built his character and have contributed to his being a world champion. 

Natural ability.  Bolt is lean, and stands taller then average at 6 ft 5 in. 

Support.  Support and nurturing from his family and his community to training and develop that ability. It was Bolt's primary school that provided him the opportunity to participate in track and field events. His family encouraged him in track and field. In high school, a coach recognized his sprinting ability and helped Bolt to train and improve his race times. 

Learning from  mistakes. Apparently Bolt was so nervous before one event, he put his shoes on the wrong feet. He vowed to learn how to deal with his pre-race nerves so that would never again effect his performance in a negative way. He worked with experts and his coach on how to cope with stress before a race.

Personal Growth. It's been said by many that early in his career Usain didn't take his running seriously, he would eat poorly, skip training, and play practical jokes – he did not have a good work ethic. When this kind of behaviour started adversely effecting his performance, he took steps to focus on his training, build his stamina, and improve his technique and race times. 

Recovery from bumps on the road.  Bolt received public criticism for "showboating" before  crossing the finish line costing himself precious seconds.  Some have called him a lazy athlete to which he responded saying the comments were unjustified as he has trained hard to achieve his potential.    Bolt suffered a series of injuries over several years which he was able to train through and recover from to continue his career.  His record breaking sprints raised suspicion about drug use, to which he stated repeatedly that he is clean every time when tested and invites anti-doping authorities to test him any time, on any part of his body to continue to prove he is clean.  In Bolt's words, "  We work hard and we perform well and we know we're clean."

Positive Attitude:  Bolt said: "I want to be among greats like Muhammad Ali, and Pele."  Usain Bolt has tremendous self belief.  He wasn't handed a gold medal when he first started running. He had to earn the first medal and each one after that with many years of training,  hard work and focus.  He saw what he wanted then did the work to achieve it.  Athletes, just like the rest of us get down, and discouraged, face failure, experience set backs. When the chips are down you must rely on yourself and a positive attitude is critical to weathering the storm and continuing on.     

It's not just one trait that a true champion makes. It's a number of factors.

How can you apply the winning characteristics of a the fastest man in the world to your own business? Let's take a look.

You want to build a successful online business. Set your goals, and set them high – but be realistic.

You are going to need a few things to get you there.

1. Believe in yourself and your abilities to make it happen. Not by thinking and dreaming about it,  but by learning and doing the things you need to do to achieve your goals.  You're going to need to be able to balance your time, put time aside to learn, afford time to start your business, grow your business, increase your business even more.   If you're fortunate to have friends and family to support you too, even better.  Surround yourself with other like minded people, if you need to find them online so be it. 2. Learn from your mistakes.  Anytime you learn a new skill, you often learn best by making mistakes and learning from them to move on to the next level. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, fall on your face. But set yourself up for success by aligning yourself with people who are experts at what they do.  You can avoid some mistakes by getting  coaching and training from the right people so you know where to best focus your time and energies.  Worldprofit has developed a training program over the last 20 years to help people step by step learn what to do and not to do so you have the best possible platform for growing your own successful online business.

3. Focus and Commit to yourself and your goals.  Recognize your shortcomings, work around those and rely on your strengths. If you're a night owl, then that may be the best time to work on your business and do your promotions.  If you are building your online business BEFORE you go to your real job, then do your promotions in the morning.   Find ways to make it work.  If you're better on the phone talking to people then get on the phone to make your sales. Not a phone talker? Then use email to connect with people, use Social Media to post, facebook, tweet, snap chat and so forth.      Don't miss more then a few days of building your business though, a few days can turn into a week, then a month.  I'm serious.  That's where the commitment comes in. When and how will you do your promotions, how will you build your list, how many contacts will you have today, how many phone calls will you make, who will you follow up with? Stay positive at all times. Catch yourself getting down or feeling discouraged, poke yourself in the eye so you can start seeing reality more clearly.  This is your goal, your dream.  It's YOU and only YOU that CAN do this, no one else.   Write your goals down, post them, then roll up your sleeves and get busy. 

4. Never give up.  Usain Bolt could have quit many times on his way to the top of the world in Track and Field . He could have said what many of us do when the going gets tough. I can't do this, it's too hard.  Or, I'm too busy. Or, I've overwhelmed which how much I have to learn.  (Insert your own excuse here 😉 .   Ask any successful person and they're sure to tell you it wasn't easy, that they  had good times and bad.  Running an online business is not easy. It takes time, patience, consistent effort, and the right mindset.
